Designated Contacts
Designated Contacts
Designated contacts ensure that communications and inquiries about your organization reach the right person, even as your team and its roles change over time.

What designated contacts do
A designated contact receives direct communications and manages inquiries for one specific area of responsibility:
- Account contact — receives notifications and inquiries about the account itself, including role invitations
- Content contact — receives notifications and inquiries about content uploads and licensed content
- Licensing contact — receives notifications and inquiries about agreements, templates, and licensing-related actions
Only one person can hold each contact type at a time. Once a designated contact is assigned for a given area, all other members of the organization are opted out of notifications for that area — so the right person gets them without flooding the rest of the team.
Please note that any particular manager can still receive notifications, even if they are not the designated primary contact. E.g. a license manager that doesn't want to be the primary contact can turn on their individual notifications in the notifications section of their profile. To learn more about how to manage notifications, read our article on Managing Notifications.
Where to find designated contacts
Go to Organization > Roles > Direct managers > Individual users. The Designated contacts section appears above your list of individual users.
If your organization hasn't assigned all three contact types yet, you'll see a banner reminding you to do so:

The message below the Designated contacts section reflects exactly what's still missing — for example, "No designated contacts for content and licensing" if only an account contact has been set.
Assigning a designated contact
- Under Individual users, find the person you want to assign.
- Click the options menu (⋮) next to their name.
- Choose Make account contact, Make content contact, or Make licensing contact.

- Confirm in the dialog that appears — click Yes, make account contact (or the equivalent for content/licensing) to confirm.
Only an account manager can assign a designated contact role.
Replacing a designated contact
Assigning a new designated contact for an area that already has one automatically replaces the current contact — you don't need to remove the old one first. The confirmation dialog shown above reflects this.
Removing a user who is a designated contact
If you try to remove a user from the organization while they're still assigned as a designated contact, DBL blocks the removal until a replacement is assigned:

Assign a new contact for each affected area first, then the user can be removed.
Managing designated contacts across multiple organizations
If your account manages more than one organization, click Learn more and assign contacts from the reminder banner to see a single view of every supported organization that's still missing a designated contact, and which contact type(s) each one needs.

Each entry links directly to Assign designated contact for that organization.
